Lt Colonel Ronald MENDAY MC (1913–2001)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Ronald Menday, welfare officer and former Army Officer, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews at his home, Turner's Court in Wallingford, Oxfordshire.
Ronald, who grew up on a farm near Canterbury, worked as a welfare officer in London before enlisting with the Highland Light Infantry at the start of the Second World War. As second in command of No.4 Commando at Normandy on D-Day, he was awarded the Military Cross for gallant and distinguished services.
After the war, he worked with the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, assisting in repatriating millions of refugees and displaced persons across Europe. He later established Turner's Court, a children's home for boys who were homeless, from broken homes or in need of special help.
