Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
The Very Rev Clarence WOLFE MBE (1892-1967)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Clarence Wolfe, Anglican priest, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews at the BBC Television Theatre, having been led to believe he was there to watch a live programme before making a telerecording on childcare following a tour of the BBC's new Television Centre.
Clarence, who was born in Leeds and educated at Slade Grammar School and Manchester University, was ordained in 1916. He became curate of St John's Church in Cheetham, Manchester, and later St Bartholomew's Church in Bolton.
Between 1928 and 1958, as Rector of St Margaret's, Aberlour, a village in the Moray district of Scotland, Clarence was the Warden and Chaplain of the local orphanage. As a father figure to hundreds of children, he was a driving force behind the home, masterminding publicity and fundraising efforts. He was appointed Dean of Moray, Ross and Caithness in 1946 and retired from his duties in 1958.
