Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Honor BLACKMAN (1925-2020)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Honor Blackman, actress, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews in a dressing room at Thames Television's Euston Road Studios, having been led to believe she was there to be interviewed about her new play, Who Killed Santa Claus?
Honor, who was born in Plaistow, east London, began her acting career after attending evening classes at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She appeared in several West End plays before moving into films as a J Arthur Rank starlet, appearing in various films throughout the 1950s, including So Long at the Fair, A Night to Remember and The Square Peg.
Her big break into television came in 1962 when she was cast as Cathy Gale in the spy series The Avengers, a role which made her a household name. She gained international recognition two years later when James Bond producer Albert R Broccoli cast her as Bond girl Pussy Galore in the film Goldfinger.
Honor Blackman was a subject of This Is Your Life on two occasions - surprised again by Michael Aspel in February 1993 at Thames Television's Teddington Studios.
