Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Jack GOOD (1931-2017)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Jack Good, television and record producer, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews while recording a new record with singer Sylvia McNeil at the Olympic Sound Studios in Barnes, London.
Jack, who was born in Greenford, London, studied theology at Oxford University, where, as president of the college drama society, he directed productions for the Edinburgh Festival. After graduating, he worked as half of a comedy double act with Trevor Peacock before joining the BBC as a trainee producer. In 1957 he produced the pioneering music show Six-Five Special, which introduced rock 'n' roll to British television.
The following year he relaunched the format on ITV as Oh Boy! and the show, broadcast live from the Hackney Empire, featured some of the UK's first rock and roll stars, which Jack would later manage, including Cliff Richard, Marty Wilde and Billy Fury, among others. Jack went on to produce similar music shows both in the UK and the US.
