Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Jim WATT MBE (1948-)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Jim Watt, boxer, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews at John Conteh's restaurant, JC, in Mayfair, London, having been led to believe he was there for a celebration for his recently published autobiography, Watt's My Name.
Jim, who was born in Glasgow, was a keen soccer player at school, but the frozen winter of 1963 led him to take up boxing while training as an apprentice electrician. He came to prominence in 1968 by winning the ABA lightweight title, turning professional the same year.
Jim won the British lightweight title in 1972, the European lightweight title in 1977 and WBC World lightweight title in 1979 - and in March 1981 was the only boxer in the history of British boxing who had successfully defended his world title four times.
