Terry LAWLESS (1933-2009)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Terry Lawless, boxing manager and trainer, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews at his boxing gym above the Royal Oak pub in Canning Town, London.
Terry, who was born in West Ham, east London, worked on the docks as a tally clerk after leaving school. He completed his National Service with the Royal Pioneer Corps as a Sergeant, after which he returned to the docks, while also working part time as a boxing trainer.
He began his coaching and management career in 1957, and was granted his manager's licence by the British Boxing Board of Control in 1961. Working out of his gym above the Royal Oak pub in Canning Town, London, Terry trained and managed several boxers who went on to win world titles, including Charlie Magri, Jim Watt, Maurice Hope, Frank Bruno, John H Stracey and Joe Calzaghe.
