Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Sharron DAVIES MBE (1962-)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Sharron Davies, television presenter and former swimmer, was surprised by Michael Aspel while presenting a cheque to Cheltenham General Hospital from proceeds she won while acting as a TV chef.
Sharron, who was born in Plymouth, started swimming competitively at the age of nine and first swam for the British national team at 11. In 1976, aged 13, she was the youngest member of Team GB at the Montreal Olympics. She won two bronze medals at the 1977 European Championships, two gold medals, a silver and bronze medal at the 1978 Commonwealth Games, and a silver medal at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow.
She retired from competing in 1980 and proved her versatility by working as a television presenter, journalist, designer, model and businesswoman. She joined ITV's game show Gladiators in 1995, presented Channel 4's The Big Breakfast in 1996 and was a regular commentator for the BBC and other broadcasters on swimming coverage in the Olympics and other championships.
