Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Duncan GOODHEW MBE (1957-)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Duncan Goodhew, former competitive swimmer, was surprised by Michael Aspel during the launch of the fundraising BT Swimathon at an unidentified sports centre.
Duncan, who was born in London but grew up near Bognor Regis, studied at Windlesham House School and Millfield School. Despite being diagnosed with dyslexia at 13 and experiencing complete hair loss at 15 following an accident, Duncan represented the UK in swimming at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
He won three silver medals at the 1978 Commonwealth Games inĀ Edmonton, while at the 1980 Olympics in Moscow, he won gold in the 100m breaststroke and bronze in the 4 x 100m medley. After retiring from competitive swimming, Duncan worked as a businessman, author, and motivational speaker, made regular television appearances and became an ambassador for several good causes, including Swim For Charity and Youth Sport Trust.
"Oh my goodness me! I can't believe that! I'm so surprised!"
