Big Red Book
Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
When This Is Your Life returned to the BBC in 1994, it was only natural that the choice of subjects would reflect the corporation's output and it's contracted personalities. This invariably included the BBC's flagship soap opera, Eastenders.
So here's a look at the results of various trips Michael took to E20 to surprise the residents of Albert Square – but also included are those subjects who are associated with the soap through past and future characters – all of whom had their very own unique 'duff duff' moment when presented with the Big Red Book...
Barbara WINDSOR Peggy Mitchell 30 September 1992 Several years before her soap debut, Barbara was surprised by Michael while performing at the Theatre Royal, Windsor, where the show was then recorded. |

Mike REID Frank Butcher 16 November 1994 The comedian turned actor was currently on extended leave from the soap when Michael surprised him at the end of a comedy gig at the Lakeside Country Club in Surrey. |

Ross KEMP Grant Mitchell 3 February 1997 Michael sneaked behind the bar of the Queen Vic to surprise the actor who had become the show's resident hardman. Ross joined the soap in 1990 and quickly established himself as a popular character, winning several acting awards during the decade. |
