Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Adam FAITH (1940-2003)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Adam Faith, singer and actor, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews while filming on location in London for the ITV series Budgie.
Adam, who was born Terence Nelhams Wright in Acton, first began performing in 1957 as part of a skiffle group, playing in the coffee bars of Soho in the evening while working as a film cutter by day. He found fame as part of the BBC music show Drumbeat, where his appearances made him an immediate star as a teen idol and led to a recording contract with EMI's Parlophone label. He scored consecutive No 1 hits on the UK Singles Chart with What Do You Want in 1959 and Poor Me the following year.
While maintaining his pop career, becoming one of the most charted acts of the 1960s, he appeared in several films, including Beat Girl in 1960. In 1968, he released his final single, parted company with EMI and turned to acting full-time. He appeared on stage in plays such as Night Must Fall and Billy Liar and later starred on television as the eponymous hero in the ITV series Budgie.
