THIS IS YOUR LIFE – Eluned Williams, National Children's Home Sister, was surprised by Michael Aspel during a reception for the George Thomas Society at the National Children's Home headquarters in London.

Eluned, who was born in north Wales and is the eldest of six children, took on maternal duties as a child to support her mother and her younger siblings after her father died. She studied at Grove Park Grammar School in Wrexham and later worked as an assistant at her local village school. Having failed the entry requirements for teacher training, she joined the National Children's Home.

Following her training, she began working at the first NCH outside of London, at Edgworth near Bolton, where she spent 10 years. In 1966, she moved to Ardwyn Children's Home in Dinas Powys, south Wales, managing the Home and helping to raise and care for hundreds of children, who affectionately called her 'Sis'.

"No! Oh dear, how awful! It's very cruel! Is this true? Oh, I don't believe this!"
