Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Graham KERR (1934-)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Graham Kerr, television chef, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews at Poole Harbour in Dorset while posing for photographs onboard a boat he and his wife were about to set sail on for a three-year around-the-world trip.
Graham, who was born in London and studied Hotel Management at Brighton Technical College, spent five years in the British Army as a catering adviser before becoming the general manager of the Royal Ascot Hotel in 1956. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1958, becoming chief catering adviser for the Royal New Zealand Air Force.
In 1959 he moved into television, hosting Entertaining with Kerr, presenting recipes while dressed in military uniform. After moving to Sydney, Australia, Graham achieved national success with a regular cooking show on television, as well as radio spots and newspaper and magazine columns. In 1968 he moved to Canada, where his television show, The Galloping Gourmet, which was syndicated worldwide, made him an international celebrity.
