Doris HARE MBE (1905-2000)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Doris Hare, actress, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews outside the White House Hotel in Regent's Park, London.
Doris was born in Bargoed, Wales, and began her career as a child actor with her parents' portable theatre, touring the mining towns of Wales. She appeared in cabaret and revue in the 1930s before becoming a household name during the Second World War presenting Shipmates Ashore on the BBC Forces Programme for the Merchant Navy.
In the 1960s, she worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre Company at the Old Vic. She achieved national attention again in 1969 when she was cast as Mrs Butler in the ITV sitcom On The Buses.
