Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Kenneth REVIS MBE (1917-2002)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Kenneth Revis, former Royal Engineers Officer, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews outside the BBC Television Theatre, having been led to believe he was on his way to record a commentary for a television programme.
Kenneth, who was born in Bedford, was training to be a civil engineer when the outbreak of war interrupted his studies. He enlisted with the Royal Engineers and was posted to the Bomb Disposal Unit. In September 1943, aged 26, while clearing mines on the West Pier in Brighton, he suffered extensive injuries and lost his sight when 13 mines exploded.
Following 20 operations to rebuild his shattered face and body, and despite his disabilities, Kenneth led an active life and refused to accept the limitations of blindness. He learnt to fly, campaigned and fundraised for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and, in March 1960, qualified as a solicitor.
