Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Lynn REDGRAVE (1943-2010)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Lynn Redgrave, actress, was surprised by Michael Aspel during the curtain call of her one-woman show, Shakespeare for My Father, at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket in London, from where the programme was then recorded.
Lynn, who was born into the Redgrave family of actors in London, trained at the Central School of Speech and Drama and made her professional debut in 1962 at the Royal Court Theatre. She joined the National Theatre for its inaugural season and, at the same time, appeared in films such as Tom Jones, Girl with Green Eyes, The Deadly Affair and Georgy Girl, which earned her an Oscar nomination.
She appeared on stage in London and New York throughout the 1970s, earning a Tony Award nomination in 1976 for Mrs Warren's Profession. In the 1980s, she gained wider recognition on American television in the sitcoms House Calls and Teachers Only before successfully returning to the London stage in 1991 with her sister Vanessa in the Chekhov play Three Sisters.
