Sue NICHOLLS (1943-)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Sue Nicholls, actress, was surprised by Michael Aspel while filming a scene for the ITV soap opera Coronation Street at Granada Studios in Manchester.
Sue, who was born in Walsall, the daughter of a life peer and former member of parliament, studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. After a spell in repertory theatre, she joined the ITV soap opera Crossroads in 1964, playing the role of Marilyn Gates for four years. During the 1970s, she sang between strip acts in a Vienna nightclub and appeared in the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of London Assurance on Broadway.
On television, she appeared in the sitcoms The Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin and Up The Elephant and Round the Castle, as well as the children's programmes Rentaghost and Pipkins. She made her first appearance as Audrey Potter in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street in April 1979, appearing occasionally until the character became permanent in 1985.
