Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Peter ADAMSON (1930-2002)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Peter Adamson, actor, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews in London's Leicester Square while visiting the city for costume fittings and publicity photographs for a forthcoming pantomime in Liverpool.
Peter, who was born in Kensington, Liverpool, first began acting with an amateur dramatics company in Wavertree while working as an apprentice engraver. After a year with the company, he won a scholarship to the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art in 1950.
He later worked in repertory companies for several years in Bury, Windsor, Sale and Weston-Super-Mare, where he set up his own theatre company, producing and performing in plays and summer shows. By 1959, he was playing bit parts on television before joining the cast of Granada Television's fledgling series Coronation Street the following year as Len Fairclough - a role which made him a household name.
