Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Bryan MOSLEY (1931-1999)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Bryan Mosley, actor, was surprised by Michael Aspel while filming a scene for the ITV soap opera Coronation Street at Granada Studios in Manchester.
Bryan, who was born in Leeds and studied at the Leeds College of Art, began acting as a member of the Belle Vue Youth Club drama group. Following his National Service with the RAF, he enrolled at the Northern Theatre School in Bradford before touring churches, pubs and prisons with the New Pilgrim Players and working in repertory theatre in York, Derby, Harrogate and Perth during the 1950s.
He first appeared in Coronation Street in February 1961, returning to the soap sporadically over the next ten years while working on dozens of films and television shows as an actor and stunt arranger. He joined the ITV soap as a regular cast member in 1971 as the owner of the Corner Shop, Alf Roberts - a role that made him a household name.
"Good lord! Well, I can't believe it! Long overdue, I may say!"

'He's the most famous shopkeeper in the country.' Michael Aspel
With all the eagerness of a little boy at Christmas, Bryan sat down and began to open the newly delivered parcel. His anticipation was enhanced by the fact that he knew exactly what was inside. This package would contain an entire life of more than 50 years as one of the country's most popular television actors.
Bryan had been totally shocked and surprised when Michael Aspel, armed with this famous book, proceeded to interrupt him on the set of Coronation Street. Laughter and applause surrounded Bryan as he was whisked off to the nearby studio for the recording, still in a state of complete bewilderment. At home, several weeks later, the same laughter and applause echoed as the man of the moment unwrapped his memento. A gasp of surprise as the bright red album came into view, and smiles of delight as it was passed around for all to see.
