Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Mike (1926-2013) and Bernie WINTERS (1932-1991)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Mike and Bernie Winters, comedy double act, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews.
Mike and his younger brother Bernie were born in London. Mike studied the clarinet at the Royal Academy of Music, while Bernie played the ukulele and performed as a comedian at the Regency Club in Soho. After serving with the Canadian Legion during the Second World War, the brothers formed a double act playing musical instruments and doing impressions.
They made their first television appearance in June 1955 on the BBC's Variety Parade programme, which was a huge success, and they stayed with the programme for three years. More television variety performances followed throughout the 1950s and early 1960s, and in 1965 they were given their own television show.
