Lloyd SCOTT (1961-)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Lloyd Scott, charity fundraiser and former goalkeeper, was surprised by Michael Aspel at Lakeside Shopping Centre while promoting a charity for children with speech and language difficulties.
Lloyd, who was born in Stepney, east London, was a professional football goalkeeper, playing with Leyton Orient FC, Watford FC and Blackpool Town FC before retiring at the end of the 1982-83 season. After being diagnosed with leukaemia, he ran his first London marathon in 1989 as part of a fitness regime to prepare him for a bone marrow transplant.
Following a successful operation, Lloyd completed eight more marathons, ran six endurance races across California's Death Valley, the Sahara Desert and the Himalayas, trekked the North and South Poles, and climbed Kilimanjaro, raising more than £1 million for charity. In addition, he completed the 2002 London Marathon in a deep-sea diving costume, breaking the world record for the slowest marathon time.
