Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Dr Stephanie COOK MBE (1972-)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Stephanie Cook, pentathlete and doctor, was surprised by Michael Aspel during a photographic fashion shoot at the Lichfield Studios in London.
Stephanie, who was born in Irvine, Ayrshire, studied medicine at Peterhouse, Cambridge, where she first began rowing, and Lincoln College, Oxford, where she took up modern pentathlon. After qualifying as a doctor in 1997, she combined pentathlon training and competing with the long hours of a junior doctor, winning a silver medal in the team event at the 1998 World Championships.
She put her medical career on hold to compete at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, where she became the first woman to win the Olympic title in the modern pentathlon. She went on to win individual European and World titles the following year before retiring from competing and returning to her career as a doctor - but not before she travelled on behalf of the medical charity Merlin to treat the victims of the Gujarat earthquake in India.
