Olivia DE HAVILLAND (1916-2020)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Olivia de Havilland, actress, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews outside the BBC Television Theatre.
Born in Tokyo to British parents, Olivia and her younger sister, actress Joan Fontaine, moved to California in 1919. Olivia participated in plays while in high school, and after graduating went on tour with Max Reinhardt's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. In 1935 she appeared in the film version of the play, and consequently signed a seven year contract with Warner Brothers.
Olivia became best known for her performances in Gone with the Wind, and her eight co-starring roles opposite Errol Flynn, including The Adventures of Robin Hood, Dodge City, Santa Fe Trail, and They Died with Their Boots On. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performances in To Each His Own and The Heiress.
