Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Dickie DAVIES (1928-2023)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Dickie Davies, television sports presenter, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews at the Thomas A Becket gym on London's Old Kent Road, having been led to believe he was there to record a piece for ITV's World of Sport.
Dickie, who was born and raised on Merseyside, studied at Oldershaw Grammar School in Wallasey, where he was a keen all-round sports player. After completing his National Service in the Royal Air Force, he worked as a purser on the Cunard Line.
His first job in broadcasting, as an announcer for Southern Television, led to Dickie working on ITV's World of Sport from 1965, initially as an understudy to the main presenter Eamonn Andrews before taking over full-time in 1968 when Eamonn left the programme.
