THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Leonard Rossiter, actor, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews.

Leonard, who was born in Wavertree, Liverpool, worked as an insurance clerk after completing his National Service with the Army's Intelligence Corps stationed in Germany. He began acting with a local amateur dramatics group before joining Preston Repertory Theatre as a professional actor at the age of 27.

After more repertory theatre in Wolverhampton, Salisbury and with the Bristol Old Vic, Leonard made several film appearances, including Billy Liar, Oliver! and 2001: A Space Odyssey. On television, he appeared in various series, including Z-Cars and Steptoe and Son, before being cast as the landlord Rigsby in the ITV sitcom Rising Damp in 1974 - a role which made him a household name.
