Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Mark WINGETT (1961-)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Mark Wingett, actor, was surprised by Michael Aspel while filming an episode of the ITV police drama series The Bill in London.
Mark, who was born in Melton Mowbray, joined the National Youth Theatre at the age of 16, having been a member of his school drama club. In 1978 he played the lead in a production of the play England My Own, which led to his first significant film role a year later as Dave, a reckless and rebellious mod in Quadrophenia, the film version of The Who's hit album.
He appeared in several film and television roles in the early 1980s, notably the ITV drama series The Ravelled Thread. However, his big break came in 1984 when he was cast in ITV's new police drama series The Bill as PC Jim Carver - a role which made him a household name.
