Stuart HALL (1929-)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Stuart Hall, broadcaster, was surprised by Michael Aspel while filming in Manchester for the Best of It's A Knockout: Here Come the Belgians! home video release.
Stuart, who was born in Ashton under Lyne, studied at Glossop Grammar School and the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. After working in the family bakery Stuart joined the BBC in 1959 as a general reporter and later a sports journalist, becoming well known for his lyrical football commentaries.
In 1965 he became the anchor man for the BBC's North West regional news programme Look North and stayed with the programme until 1990 when he moved to ITV's Granada Reports. In 1972 he gained national recognition as presenter of the BBC game show It's A Knockout, which he regularly presented until the early 1990s.
