Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Christopher TIMOTHY (1940-)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Christopher Timothy, actor, was surprised by Michael Aspel - with the help of actor Paul Shane - while filming the BBC television soap opera Doctors at the Pebble Mill studios in Birmingham.
Christopher, who was born in Bala, north Wales, studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama under the John Gielgud scholarship. Two days after leaving drama school, he was cast in the Royal Court play Chips With Everything, which transferred to Broadway. He was part of Laurence Olivier's National Theatre company in the 1960s and then played several seasons with the National Theatre Company.
He appeared in various television series throughout the 1970s, notably in the BBC crime drama Murder Most English in 1977. The following year he found fame as the veterinary surgeon James Herriot in the hugely successful BBC series All Creatures Great and Small, a role he played until 1990, appearing in all 90 episodes.
