David JACOBS DL (1926-2013)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - David Jacobs, broadcaster, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews while broadcasting his BBC Radio 2 show live at the Ideal Home Exhibition at Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London.
David, who was born in Streatham Hill, London, performed on the popular BBC General Forces programme Navy Mixture while serving with the Royal Navy. Later, he became a full-time announcer and DJ with the British Forces Broadcasting Service and chief announcer on Radio South East Asia Command in Ceylon.
After being demobbed in 1947, he freelanced in radio, newsreel and radio drama. In 1955, he moved to television as a presenter of Come Dancing and later presented Juke Box Jury throughout the 1960s. In 1967, he began chairing the long-running BBC Radio 4 topical discussion series Any Questions - a job he did for 17 years.
