Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Susan GEORGE (1950-)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Susan George, actress, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews outside Harrods department store in London's Knightsbridge, having been led to believe she was taking part in a television programme about seasonal shopping.
Susan, who was born in Surbiton, began acting at the age of four, appearing in several television plays and commercials before training at the Corona Stage School. She first appeared on stage at age 12 in a West End production of the musical The Sound of Music and won her first starring film role in The Strange Affair in 1968.
After appearing in a string of successful British films in the later 1960s and early 1970s, including Lola, Spring and Port Wine and Fright, she starred opposite Dustin Hoffman in Straw Dogs, which catapulted her to international stardom and led to her spending the remainder of the 1970s in the US, where her films included Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry and Mandingo.
