Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Errol BROWN (1943-2015)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Errol Brown, singer and songwriter, was surprised – on his birthday - by Michael Aspel during a personal appearance at the HMV store on London's Oxford Street.
Errol was born in Kingston, Jamaica, but moved to the UK when he was twelve to join his mother, who had relocated three years earlier. After studying business studies at Ealing College and working as a clerical officer in HM Treasury, he broke into the music business in 1969 with a version of John Lennon's Give Peace a Chance recorded with a band called The Hot Chocolate Band.
Renamed Hot Chocolate, the band was signed up by producer Mickie Most in 1970. With Errol as the lead singer, they released their first single, Love is Life, later that year, which reached number six in the charts. The band had at least one hit every year between 1970 and 1984, making them the only group in the UK to have a hit for 15 consecutive years.
