Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Sir Andrew DAVIS CBE (1944-2024)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE – Andrew Davis, conductor, was surprised by Michael Aspel while rehearsing for his final concert with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Andrew, who was born in Hertfordshire, studied at the Royal Academy of Music and King's College, Cambridge, where he was an organ scholar before taking up conducting. His first prominent post was as associate conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, which he joined in 1970.
Since then, he has been the artistic leader at several of the world's most distinguished opera and symphonic institutions, including the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Glyndebourne Festival Opera and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. His diverse repertoire ranges from Baroque to contemporary and spans the symphonic, operatic and choral worlds pioneering new works and popularising the classics.
