Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Paul JONES (1942-)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE – Paul Jones, singer, actor and broadcaster, was surprised by Michael Aspel while presenting his Radio 2 show at BBC Broadcasting House in London.
Paul, who was born in Portsmouth, first came to prominence in 1962 as the original lead singer and harmonicist with the rock band Manfred Mann, who had hits with Do Wah Diddy Diddy and Pretty Flamingo. After going solo in 1966, he had success with the singles High Time and I've Been a Bad, Bad Boy before branching into acting.
As an actor, he made numerous appearances in film and television, including Z Cars and The Sweeney. On stage, he starred in the National Theatre productions of The Beggar's Opera and Guys and Dolls. In 1979, he founded The Blues Band with some of his former Manfred Mann members, and from 1986 he presented The Blues Show on BBC Radio 2.
