Celebrating television's This Is Your Life
Darren GOUGH (1970-)
THIS IS YOUR LIFE - Darren Gough, cricketer, was surprised by Michael Aspel while launching a competition for junior cricketers at Lord's Cricket Ground in London.
Darren, who was born in Barnsley, joined the Yorkshire County Cricket Club in 1987 on a Youth Training Scheme. Two years later, aged 19, he made his first-class debut for the county at Lord's. Later the same year, he was selected for England and would go on to spearhead England's bowling attack through much of the 1990s.
In 1999 he became the first England bowler to take an Ashes hat trick for a hundred years and was subsequently named Wisden Cricketer of the year. By the end of 2000, he had taken over 180 wickets for his country, and when England beat the West Indies for the first time in more than 30 years, he was named Man of the Series.
